The feral plains of silver steel,
The giant behemoths rising from the earth,
Clad in titanium armor,
They dominate the landscape.
The rainforests are now long gone,
Razed by the human machine.
Once, long ago,
Life was abundant in the now nonexistent forest,
When a deafening scream ran across the land,
As one by on the palaces of Mother Nature were carved into slices,
And melted down.
When finally, the debris cleared,
The Fields of Life were as barren and bleak as when the earth first formed,
Like volcanoes spewed their liquid fire,
Humans forged their industrial carapace.
From space, earth is nothing but a metallic marble,
Large and grey and devoid of its living luster.
Rolling towards its eventual demise,
Brought upon by the planet,
And the beasts that it birthed.

Tatiana Gheybi Literature Honorable Mention
Beauty is…
The selfless love given with no expectations
The warm touch of a friend who sees you in pain
The flower petals thrown at your feet by a lover
The glory of a sunrise which is the sign of a new day
The blooming of the flowers on a spring day
The heroic acts of those who put themselves in harm’s way to protect us.
The first kiss that makes the room spin around you
Holding a new life in your arms
A helping hand I times of need
The fire burning in your heart when the one you love is far and away
The smile on a child
S face when surprised
The day you are born and celebrate each year.
The nature around you if you are lucky enough to notice them
The miracles that happen on a daily basis when we pray for them
The hugs you get every morning when you say goodbye
A peaceful mind and a happy nature that brings joy to others
Being thankful for what you have, not looking at what you don’t
All around us if we just open our eyes!
